This is a holy Hindu temple for the goddess Ammavaru. A man was caught defecating inside the temple near the sacred area or idol.
Angry locals and devotees confronted him right away. They beat him, made him clean up the mess, and then handed him over to the police.
The man is 26-year-old Altaf from Hugeri in Bidar district, Karnataka.
Police arrested him and charged him with unlawful entry and insulting religious feelings. He is now in judicial custody. The area saw protests and extra police presence.
Police are investigating his motives and mental state. It's not clear yet if it was deliberate or related to health issues. Locals called it a big insult to their faith.
